OREGON SYMPHONY STORYTIMES RETURN TO THE SHERWOOD LIBRARY!
In February the Oregon Symphony returns to the Sherwood Library with interactive Symphony Storytimes for preschoolers. Each storytime features one of the four instrument families and every week an Oregon Symphony musician will add music to the stories that Teresa the Storylady has picked out just for the occasion. Following the story there will be a chance for kids to try out an instrument during an “instrument petting zoo.” Oregon Symphony storytimes will be on Wednesdays, February 1, 8, 15 & 22 from 1-2pm in the Community Meeting Room.
Space at these storytimes is limited and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis so get to the Library early – tickets will be handed out at the front desk starting at 12:30.
Oregon Symphony Storytimes are provided through a generous grant from the Cultural Coalition of Washington County.
FINDING YOUR VOICE AS A WRITER FOR GRADES 10-12 ON FEBRUARY 11
High school sophomores through seniors are invited to join Jen Violi, author of the young adult book, “Putting Makeup on Dead People,” for our “Finding Your Voice as a Writer” workshop on Saturday, February 11 from 1-3pm in the Community Meeting Room at the Sherwood Library.
Jen writes… “If you’re reading this, you probably love words: writing them, reading them, rhyming them, hearing them. You also probably have favorite writers who tell stories and write sentences that you love. You might think that the best thing for you to do as a budding author would be to sound like those writers, to write like they do.
The truth is that the best thing for you to do is to sound like you. You can write things that no one else can, and the world needs your unique writing voice.
Given all the other words out there, our singular writing voices can easily get lost, but this workshop is designed to help you find yours. Spend a few hours writing for fun and with a purpose, and learn how to unleash the truest and best writing within you! Bring yourself, paper, and your favorite writing utensil.”
Facilitator Bio: Author Jen Violi lives in Portland, OR, where she’s grateful to make her living and her life through her love of words and stories. Jen’s first novel, Putting Makeup on Dead People, was published in May 2011. Learn more at www.jenvioli.com.
The Friends of the Library have kindly sponsored this event.
